A long weekend during the summer. A wee drive to somewhere sunny; meet some old chums for a couple of evenings' frivolities; drive home. What's not to like ?
This is not really a blog post - as such. It's more of a kite-flying exercise, sparked by watching another of those mildly entertaining (albeit in danger of becoming a bit tiresome) Top Gear cross-Europe races.
I have not a few chums/friends/acquaintances who enjoy travel - of the sort one step away from week-long package deals on the Med. (See blogs passim for a description of the Sucata Run).
What better way to spend some time therefore than having a wee Top Gear-type European outing with a theme? So, here we go : Introducing "The Stingey Bastard Challenge".
Entrants will depart the UK on a pre-determined date and aim to arrive in the delightful Atlantic resort of La Rochelle two or three days later. Objective of the trip is to obtain retail till receipts for as small an amount as possible from the following locations:
1. Anywhere in the UK dated the agreed day of departure
2. Any Europe-side channel port
3. Amiens
4. Champs Elysees, Paris. (Pre-arranged overnight stop somewhere suitable in the Ile de France area. Beer involved).
5. Blois
6. La Rochelle (overnight stop before heading home. More beer, and possibly some juicy horse burgers).
Winner shall be the team with the lowest aggregate total spend for their six receipts. Prize TBA.
Anyone else think it might be a bit of a hoot ?
